FRANKFORT, Ky. – In a day that saw 10 total home runs in two games, the Bellarmine University softball team split a doubleheader with Kentucky State University, falling 6-5 in Game 1, and winning 13-10 in Game 2.

With the split, Bellarmine moves to 25-21 on the season while KSU now stands at 25-13. The Knights return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action this weekend with doubleheaders against Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday and Southern Indiana on Sunday.

Recaps of the two games are below:

Game 1: Kentucky State 6, Bellarmine 5 (Box Score)

The Knights took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Thorobrettes rallied for three runs to take the opener.

Bellarmine had taken the lead on the strength of a solid offensive performance by catcher Scarlett Powers, who was 2-for-3 with a homer and three runs batted in.  Erin Sireno and Hannah Daunhauer also posted multi-hit games.

Game 2: Bellarmine 13, Kentucky State 10 (Box Score)

The Knights banged out 19 hits including three homers to outslug the host Thorobrettes, who posted 10 runs on 11 hits.

After taking a 9-3 lead in the top of the third inning, Kentucky State erupted for six runs to tie it the bottom half of the inning.

Bellarmine re-took the lead in the top of the fifth as Lauren Summe and Sireno connected on solo home runs.

Meanwhile, Bellarmine pitcher Amanda Meyer came on in relief of starter Alicia Miller and was able to slow down the potent Kentucky State offense, striking out nine in just four innings of work.  The only run Meyer surrendered was a solo homer by KSU catcher Caitlyn Pierotti, who hit three home runs in the game.

The Knights added two important insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a 2-run bomb to deep left by third baseman Madi Ratliff.

All nine of Bellarmine's offensive players connected for hits in the game two with Summe, Ratliff, Megan Murdoch, and Kayla Padgett all collecting three hits.  Summe knocked in five runs to lead  the Knights.
