HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—The Bellarmine University baseball team failed to plate a single run as Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Northern Kentucky University swept a doubleheader today at the Bill Aker Complex by the scores of 9-0 and 6-0.

The sweep by NKU ups their season record to 19-9, and they take over first place in the GLVC East standings with a record of 12-2.  The Knights fall to 15-10, 7-3 GLVC.

Bellarmine returns to action on Friday when they travel to Evansville to take on the University of Southern Indiana.

Game 1 Recap:

Bellarmine never got their offense on track as three NKU pitchers combined for a 1-hit shutout of the Knights.  Freshman Austin Crutcher singled to lead off the fifth inning to account for Bellarmine's lone hit.  Meanwhile, the Norse banged out 13 hits and the Knights' defense helped them along as four of NKU's nine runs were unearned.

Norse shortstop Bradley Vanderglas was the offensive leader of the game, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and three runs batted in.

Game 2 Recap

Bellarmine kept up the Norse in the hit department in game 2 as both squads tallied seven base hits, but the Norse picked up a pair of unearned runs and the Knights stranded seven runners as NKU completed another shutout in the 7-inning game.

Bellarmine starter Kyle Grana allowed just one hit over his three innings of work, but a pair of walks and a pair of errors led to two runs as the Norse got out to an early lead.

The Knights stiffened defensively, but NKU's offense picked up as they scored in each of the last three innings to take game two 6-0.

Phil Smith and Vanderglas led the Norse attack as both went 2-3 in game two.  Bellarmine's Mike Morrissette also had a multi-hit game with a single and double in three at-bats.
