Bellarmine University women's track standouts
Angela Musk and
Meghan Jones picked up invitations to compete at this week's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo. Musk will complete compete in the 1,500 meters while Jones is in the field for the 400 meters.
Both Bellarmine runners eclipsed NCAA provisional marks during the regular season, but had to wait to see if they made the NCAA field, which was announced last week.
Musk's top time in the 1,500 this year was a 4:29.14 at the Louisville Cardinal Twilight meet. The time broke the school record established by All-American Katie Hickey at the 2009 DII Championships.
Jones bested her own school record with her fastest 400 meters—55.07 seconds—at the Bellarmine Classic last month.
The Bellarmine duo are scheduled to compete within a half hour of one another on Thursday evening with the women's 1500 scheduled for 7:10 (EDT) and the 400 meters at 7:40.
The top 12 runners advance in the 1500 (top four finishers in each heat, plus the next four fastest times), and the top nine runners advance in the 400 (the two heat winners, plus the next seven times).
The finals are scheduled for Saturday: 1500 at 7:35 p.m. (EDT), and the 400 at 8:15 p.m. (EDT).
