EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced the 2012 All GLVC Baseball Team, and five Knights were among the honorees. Starting pitcher Kyle Grana earned first team recoginition while catcher Kyle Roden, first baseman Kal Scheler, and pitchers Phil Forbis and Justin Strohmeier were named to the second team.
Grana, one of just nine unanimous selections, led the Knights's pitching staff with an 8-2 record and ranks 10th in the nation with a 1.28 earned run average. The hard-throwing right hander also ranks in the nation's top 15 for strikeouts per nine innings and hits allowed per nine innings.
Roden led the Bellarmine offense in many categories this season including batting average (.329), runs batted in (37), and stolen bases (10). Roden also played in all 50 games for the Knights this year and caught in 39 of the 50, but only allowed two passed balls all season.
Scheler was another offensive standout for the Knights, hitting .315 and driving in 25 runs. He also was solid defensively with a fielding percentage of .989.
Forbis, like Grana, was a starter in most of his appearances and was 4-3 on the year with a 3.19 earned run average.
Strohmeier made 27 appearances--all in relief--and assumed the "closer" role by season's end. He totaled six saves on the year with a 1.05 earned run average.
