INDIANAPOLIS--The Bellarmine University men's tennis had their best showing ever at the annual Midwest ITA tournament hosted this year by the University of Indianapolis and held Thursday through Sunday (Sept. 27-30) at Center Grove High School.  Bellarmine junior Anton Rabinov made it all the way to the singles finals where he he lost in a third set super-tiebreak to Drury's Andy Blair, the 2012 GLVC Player of the Year.

"Anton played brilliant tennis throughout the tournament but just came up a little short," said Bellarmine Tennis Coach John Mican.

After winning the first set 6-3, Rabinov fell behind early in the second set, and although he was still fighting hard, he just couldn't convert the break chances he earned.  "You really have to give both Andy and Anton a ton of credit," said Mican. "Having to play six matches in three days takes a super-human effort."

Anton's runs his fall season match record to a stellar 12-2 mark, winning the DePauw tournament's number one singles flight, Centre College's tournament number one singles and top doubles flight, along with being the ITA finalist.

"In the end you had to tip your hat to Andy Blair for winning the tournament as he was the better player today," Mican added.

As a team the Knights won 15 of the 26 matches they competed in as Igal Mostkov, Jacob Knagenhjelm, Carlos Antonioli, Alan Gardiner and Nathan Walroth all picked up wins at the tournament.
