The Bellarmine University softball team worked hard on and off the field during the recently ended fall semester. In addition to preparing for upcoming season, the Bellarmine players and coaches completed service projects for Make-A-Wish and Camp Taylor Elementary.
CAMP TAYLOR
Over the past few months, BU Softball partnered with a third grade classroom at Camp Taylor Elementary School. Team members developed pen pals with students from the class and wrote letters every Thursday to build a close relationship with the students. "Receiving letters back from the kids always makes us laugh, and we can share them with one another," said Bellarmine player
Tanner Tevis. The team carpooled to the school to meet their pen pals and got to spend most of the afternoon with their new buddies. The team continued to write their pen pals weekly until the recent Christmas break. "Touching children's lives is such a life changing opportunity and now these kids have an older person they can always look up to," Tevis said.
MAKE-A-WISH
The Bellarmine Softball team also contributed to the Make A Wish Foundation by putting out decorated shoe boxes at a number of their fall events such as games and exhibitions against Division I opponents as well as at a scheduled tournament hosted by Bellarmine Softball and at other team events. These effrorts raised more than $150 for Make-A-Wish.
