Box Score Moon Township, Pa. – The Bellarmine University Knights started off the 2013 season with a 9-8 win over Robert Morris University on Saturday.

In a tightly contested game Bellarmine was able to match goals with the Colonials throughout the first quarter. After penalties forced the Knights into two man-down situations in the second period, RMU was able to pull ahead and take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

The second half of the game would prove to be all Knights. With goals from Ryan Scinta and Cameron Gardner early in the third period Bellarmine was able to capture a brief 7-7 tie. The Colonials fired back and were able to go back on top 8-7, and it would be their last lead of the game. Less than one minute after RMU took the lead it was another goal from Cam Gardner that put the Knights back into a tie with the Colonials. The decisive goal in this close contest came from senior midfielder Will Cary with just over five minutes to play. Assisted by Brogan Hill, Bellarmine's ninth goal would prove to be the game winner.

The Knights were able to capture victory thanks to contributions from a number of different players. Senior Michael Ward led the way with two goals and two assists. Gardner also chipped in two goals for Bellarmine. Senior, captain, Trevor Timmerberg had a strong game as well, posting a goal and an assist in the victory. It wasn't just the short sticks doing the scoring on Saturday. Junior defender Sean Joyce tacked on a goal, the second of his career, and sophomore LSM Bobby Schmitt also dished out an assist for the Knights.

Bellarmine relied on both of their senior goalkeepers to get the win against Robert Morris. Will Haas began the game in the cage and allowed seven goals while making four saves. Dillon Ward played exceptionally well in the second half and allowed just one goal while stopping nine shots.

Head Coach Kevin Burns was pleased with his team's effort and after the game said, "I was proud of the way our guys battled back after getting down. We faced adversity early in the game and were able to persevere and come away with a good result."

The Colonials fell short but had solid performances from Luke Laszkiewicz who tallied three goals, Taylor Graves with two goals and an assist, and Eric Rankel who netted one goal and notched two assists. Despite allowing nine goals, RMU goalkeeper Charles Ruppert was able to make 15 saves in between the pipes.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday when the University of Michigan Wolverines travel to Louisville for a 1 p.m. game at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
