LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University men's tennis team claimed its second victory in two spring matches this Saturday by outlasting the Patriots of University of the Cumberlands 6-3 at the Sport, Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bellarmine campus.
The Knights took all three doubles points with
Jacob Knagenhjelm and
Carlos Antonioli winning at number one in a tie breaker 7-2. "Jacob caught fire just in time finishing with two service winners and a winning return," said Bellarmine Tennis Coach
John Mican.
Knagenhjelm kept it going in singles, making quick work of his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in under an hour.
Anton Rabinov and
Carlos Antonioli lost heartbreaking third set super-tie breaks.
Alan Gardiner clinched the match with a 10-5 third set tie-break win while
Jimmy Fernandez finished out the scoring for the Knights with another solid performance at number 5 singles winning 6-0, 6-2.
"Jimmy is unquestionably playing the best tennis of his career right now, hitting winners from everywhere on the court,” Mican said, and all of Alan's hard work is paying off as he continues to improve."
Bellarrmine's season continues with another home match next Saturday against Campbellsville University at 9 a.m.
