The Bellarmine University women's tennis team finished their spring break trip with an 8-0 loss against Grand Valley State, as one match was left unfinished due to darkness at the Oak Street Park Tennis Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.
Bellarmine's No. 1 doubles team of freshmen
Caitlin Hanley and
Michelle McFerran came close to winning at number one doubles but just were nipped at the end of the pro-set 9-7. The pair then put up brilliant efforts in their singles matches. Hanley just came up short losing in the third set super-tiebreaker 10-8 at the number one spot while McFerran fell at number two singles with a hard fought 7-5, 7-5 decision.
" The girls were both disappointed with their losses, but I was very pleased in the way these two young athletes competed against one of the top teams in our region," said Bellarmine Coach
John Mican.
After opening spring break with a convincing wins over Wartburg (7-2) and Montana State-Billings (8-1) and suffered losses to Ohio Dominican (2-7) and Saginaw Valley 4-5).
