LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Bellarmine University men's golf team helped The First Tee of Louisville kick of their 2013 season at Shawnee Golf Course on April 10 by collecting and donating golf clubs as well as giving free lessons to local youths.
The First Tee is a youth golf program created to help young people learn the game and other life skills who otherwise might not have an opportunity to enjoy the game. The First Tee, with branches throughout the country, creates a fun and safe environment for the children where the organization tries to inspire as many young people as possible to live its nine core values– honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment.
The men's golf team collected over 100 golf clubs and worked with kids at Shawnee Course. The project was inspired by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, who challenged each of the school's athletic teams to do two service projects this year.
Earlier in the year, the men's golf team raised funds for Make-A-Wish, the official charity of NCAA Division-II athletics, by hosting a closest to the pin contest.
