LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine University men's tennis team fell behind early, but roared back with five wins in singles to defeat the St. Joseph's Pumas 6-3 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference dual match at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Bellarmine's campus.
The Pumas took the early lead with a 2-1 advantage in doubles after coming out on top of a 12-10 tiebreaker to win the No. 2 doubles match 9-8.
However, the Knights Nos. 1-3 singles players all took thier matches convincingly to take control of the contest.
"The match was closer than the final score might indicate," said Bellarmine Coach
John Mican. "St. Joe's made us fight for every last point."
Anton Rabinov and
Igal Mostkov led the Bellarmine attack teaming up for an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, then came back took care of business at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Also scoring victories in singles were
Jacob Knagenhjelm,
Jimmy Fernandez, and
Logan Knott, who fought back from an early 1-4 deficit to win 7-5, 6-0.
The Knights improve to 13-6 on the season, and posted their first conference win to up their GLVC mark to 1-2.
Bellarmine gets right back to action tomorrow, hosting the University of Indianapolis at 10 a.m.
