HERSHEY, Pa.—Led by senior David Shearn's round of 72 (+1), the Bellarmine University golf team closed with a score of 305 to finish in 18th at the NCAA Division II National Championship being contested at the Hershey Country Club's “East Course.”

Only the top eight teams move on to the “medal-match” play portion of the championship, which will decide the national champion in a head to head competition over the next two days.  Florida Southern will enter as the No. 1 seed after the Moccasins stormed from 10 shots back with a final round 280 (-4) to overtake Barry University.  The remaining six teams advancing include: defending champion Nova Southeastern, Lynn, South Carolina-Aiken, Cal State-Monterey Bay, Missouri St. Louis, and Western Washington.

The individual NCAA DII champion was crowned at the conclusion of today's play with Tim Crouch of Florida Southern earning the honor in a 3-way playoff.  Crouch finished at 211 (-2) par along with Matt Atkins of USC-Aiken and Jake We4bb of Western Washington.

For the Knights, Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year Bryan Ratterman was the low team member with a 54-hole total of 226 (75-74-77).  Jack Clare was another two shots back after rounds of 75-77-76.  Shearn finished at 231 (79-80-72), followed by Alex Foley at 236 (73-83-80) and Ryan Glass at 264 (93-89-82).

The Championship marked the end of the careers of Ratterman and Shearn, who have etched their names in the Bellarmine history books as the only two Knights to play in two team national championships.  Brooks Herrick competed in two national championships for the Knights (2009 and 2010), but  one appearance (2009) was as an individual.
