Trio of Knights earn Academic All-District honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Bellarmine University cross country and track & field athletes Robert Sandlin, Jr. , Angela Musk, and Emily Frith have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Teams on Thursday for their outstanding performance in the classroom and on the track. All three are now nominees for recognition as Academic All-Americans.

A Frankfort, Ky. native, Sandlin crossed the finish line in 4th place in the 1,500m at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 3:56.41. An exercise science major, Sandlin was also named to the All-Midwest Regional Team in cross country with a 13th place finish.

Musk completed a dominating year in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, earning GLVC Cross Country and Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors. She earned All-America honors by finishing 12th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships then followed it up with a 8th place finish in the 1,500m run at Outdoor Track & Field Championships, also being named an All-American. A psychology and art double-major, she was named the GLVC's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year.

After missing the early parts of the cross country season due to an injury, Frith came back strong to finish 31st overall while being named as an All-American. The Crab Orchard, Ky. native was named the GLVC Track Athlete of the Week on April 24 after setting a new program record in the 5,000m with a time of 17:08.74. 

About the Capital One Academic All-America® Program:

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
