For its SAAC Challenge project, the Bellarmine University volleyball team ventured to the Louisville Zoo on Oct. 12 to volunteer with Down Syndrome of Louisville and put on a Halloween party for its members.
The Knights set up yellow and orange table decorations, served the members and their families food, played games like horseshoes, parachute and limbo, and ran an obstacle course.
Upon arrival, the kids received name tags and goody bags. They were dressed up as all sorts of characters, some of the more popular ones being Elsa and Anna from the Disney movie "Frozen," Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superman and witches. Also seen were dragons, a slice of pizza and an astronaut.
After the kids ate and played games, they were entertained by musical Disney characters. When the concert was finished, the Knights collected tickets from the families that granted them access to Trick-or-Treat at the zoo.
"We cleaned up and headed out, having not stopped smiling for the whole time we were there," sophomore outside hitter and SAAC representative
Ashley Jefferson said. "Seeing the kids have an enjoyable time warmed the hearts of all the players, and we all look forward to doing it again."
