Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Bellarmine Knights Lacrosse team dropped its' second game of the season today after an 11-10 overtime loss at home against the Michigan Wolverines. The defeat drops the Knights to 0-2 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference and 4-2 overall.

Both teams started slow offensively with Michigan's Josh Stauffer scoring the only goal of the first quarter on a well executed Wolverine fast break.

Michigan's offense started clicking early in the second quarter and the visiting team netted two more goals in the first three minutes of the period to jump ahead 3-0.

Bellarmine was finally able to break through with a man-up score from freshman
Austin Shanks, assisted by junior
Ryan Scinta. Shanks has played well in his freshman season, his 11 goals are second most on the team.

The teams traded goals twice before the Knights'
Chad Mitchell found the back of the net with just nine seconds left in the first half to cut Michigan's lead to one at 5-4.

The Knights used efficient shooting in the first half to keep the game tight, being outshot by Michigan 23-13. The Wolverines also dominated at the faceoff "x" winning 11 of 11 draws in the first half and 21 of 24 for the game. A big reason for Michigan's faceoff success is due to Louisville native Brad Lott. Lott, a Trinity graduate, has won over 62% of his faceoff attempts this season.

Bellarmine found their rhythm in the second half and after a score from
Cameron Gardner, and back to back goals from Mitchell, the Knights claimed a 7-5 lead.

The Knights' lead would be brief as the Wolverines managed to claw their way back and knot the game at seven before the teams traded goals one more time.

Bellarmine was able to strike first in the fourth quarter and took a 10-8 lead thanks to an unassisted score from freshman
Tucker Ciessau and a man-up goal from Scinta.

Despite the deficit, the Wolverines refused to let up and fired back with two goals of their own to tie the game at ten and send it to overtime.

It was Michigan's Lott winning the opening faceoff of the overtime period and the Wolverines would take advantage. After a flurry of shots and a Bellarmine timeout Michigan's Mikie Schlosser found the back of the net for the game winner.

Leading Michigan in scoring was senior Thomas Paras (2g 1a) but the Wolverines were balanced with eight players scoring goals.

The Knights were paced by Ciessau (2g 3a) who, in his freshman season, leads Bellarmine in goals (16) and points (19). Mitchell , Scinta, Shanks and Gardner also chipped in three points a piece in the loss.

Michigan led Bellarmine in shots (45-40), ground balls (31-21) and faceoff wins (21-3) in route to their fourth win of the season. The Wolverines now move to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the ECAC.

Bellarmine's schedule doesn't get any easier as the Knights travel to Columbus next week to take on the Ohio State University Buckeyes. The ECAC match-up will faceoff at 7 p.m. on Friday March 21.
