The Bellarmine University track and field teams know something about the benefits of activity, and they recently brought that to the Frazier Rehab Institute in Louisville as part of their SAAC Challenge projects. The Knights also used the 2014 Bellarmine Invitational as an opportunity to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation. According to its website, Frazier Rehab is "known for world-class care in comprehensive acute rehab" and "provides extensive therapy across a number of specialties for inpatient and outpatient rehab needs." The Knights played some games with the patients to get to know them, including bingo. Relayed track members and SAAC members
Heidi Blocker and
Lovice Pollock: "The goal for today was to get these patients out of their beds and show them a good time. The team thought it would be a great idea to work with individuals who were physically challenged – something we often take for granted as a college athlete. The community service project was great because we were able to work with patients that are struggling to stay positive because of their current medical conditions. We were able to work with people that may not have everything going for them, but still have goals for the future and won't let anyone stop them from achieving them." As part of the Bellarmine Invitational, the Knights collected donations from those in attendance with all proceeds going to the Louisville chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which "grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition."
