On Saturday, Aug. 29th, the Bellarmine men's and women's tennis teams took part in the 26th annual Ohio River Sweep event as part of their SAAC service project.
The players each filled large garbage bags with trash that they picked up along the banks of the river in Cox Park. While last year's women's tennis team led all athletic teams with the highest GPA, this year they felt it was equally important to also lead the way in community service projects.
The teams took the morning before their first practices to volunteer for the clean-up. Senior women's captain
Caitlin Hanley expressed "that while no one really wants to get up early on a Saturday morning to pick up trash, it does make you feel good to give back."
Sophomore
Matthew Momper, the men's SAAC representative, also added that it was a great morning to be on the river and was amazed at all the debris that was collected.
