LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A combined 68 members of the Bellarmine University swimming, softball and volleyball teams volunteered Sunday at the 2016 Ironman Louisville triathlon.
The Knights student-athletes worked on the run course at an aid station from 11 a.m. until midnight. They supplied triathletes with water, nutrition and moral support during the early and late stages of this 26.2-mile leg of a 140.6-mile total journey.
For their efforts, the Knights student-athletes were awarded third place among over 20 aid stations on the Ironman course.
The Bellarmine teams have decided to donate the $500 bonus they earned to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
