LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Members of the Bellarmine University field hockey team recently gave their time to the Volunteers of America family shelter.
The Knights played board games and video games with the kids and danced with them in an attempt to bring fun and joy to their day. The Knights received a tour of the family center and learned reasons why the families might be staying there. They then played the games "Headbands," "Twister" and "Simon Says" with the younger residents.

Merit Harris said volunteering at the family home made her feel like part of the community, and she felt like she made a difference in their day.
"All of the kids came in kind of sad or monotone, and they all left with smiles on their face," Harris said.
