LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's and women's cross country teams recently had the opportunity to pace or "rabbit" several elementary school cross country races at Southeast Christian Church in cooperation with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The races were for boys and girls from kindergarten through eighth grade. The kindergarten through fourth graders raced 1 mile, and the fifth through eighth graders raced 2 miles. The Bellarmine cross country runners were able to pace each race as well as hang out in the middle of the race and run along with the kids to encourage them to the finish. Other Bellarmine runners worked the chute and made sure kids made it through quickly and safely once they finished.
"We have worked with Steve Wiggington and the FCA for the past several years to pace these elementary school races," Knights senior
Nick Christensen said. "It is always a great time to see the youngsters being active and getting out there and running competitively against one another."
