LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Over the past week, the Bellarmine University swimming teams worked together with a local Target to raise money for the Franciscan Kitchen's Christmas Giveaway. In addition to providing daily meals, each year the Kitchen celebrates Christmas by distributing a variety of essential items for area children, adults and families in need.
Members of the men's and women's swim team donated $295 and Target added an additional $912 in gift cards to be used toward the purchase of items. Through the combined funds, the teams were able to buy 40 backpacks, numerous packages of socks and undergarments, reusable masks, hats and blankets. This level of giving would not have been accomplished without the generous donations of time and money from the Bellarmine swim team and Target.
On Tuesday, members of the team delivered their purchases to the Kitchen's staff, who were grateful for their generosity. The gratitude goes both ways.
"The men's and women's swim teams are thankful for the opportunity to support this important community organization," stated team captain Taylor Owen.
