LOUISVILLE, Ky.— After laying 20 of its first 23 games away from home, Bellarmine softball is back at Knights Field starting Wednesday.
Bellarmine will face UT-Martin at 3:00 p.m. and Marshall at 5:00 p.m. in a midweek doubleheader. The visiting teams will also battle each other in a neutral site game at 1:00 p.m.
The Knights played all five of its games last week on the road, starting ASUN action at Lipscomb last weekend. Despite three losses, Bellarmine's pitching held Lipscomb to six total runs over the final two games of the series.
Claire Lehmkuhler turned in her best performance of the season on Sunday, shutting out the Bisons until the seventh inning.
Chloe Collins has a team-best five home runs and nine RBI this season, while
Caitlyn Watson is batting .333 over 18 games.
Olivia Bricker has frequently been on base, drawing a team-high 16 walks, stealing four bases, and scoring eight runs this season. In the circle, Lehmkuhler leads all Bellarmine pitchers with 61 strikeouts over 64.1 innings pitched.
UT-Martin enters Wednesday 9-11 with a 2-3 record in the OVC. The Skyhawks have won three straight, most recently defeating SIUE in a pair of conference games. UT-Martin is 1-4 against common opponents with Bellarmine this season, losing three games to Eastern Illinois and defeating Valparaiso 12-0. Kaci Fuller leads UT-Martin with a .527 batting average, 23 RBI, six home runs, and a 1.456 OPS through 20 games. Fuller's batting average ranks third in the nation.
Marshall is 22-3 this season with a 1-0 record in Sun Belt play. The Thundering Herd's losses have come against Butler, Chattanooga, and Liberty this season. Since the loss to Liberty, Marshall has won 12 consecutive games and is 10-0 at home. Twenty two of their wins have been run-rule victories, and the most impressive win on Marshall's slate is a 4-3 triumph over Pittsburgh. Autumn Owen leads Marshall with a .521 batting average, 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and 1.753 OPS through 25 games. Marshall's batting average ranks fourth nationally (behind UTM's Fuller), while her marks of 13 home runs and 44 RBI rank second in the nation.
