LOUISVILLE, Ky -- The Bellarmine University women's soccer team learned this evening that they earned the fourth seed in the Midwest region and will take on the fifth-seeded University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Friday, Nov. 13 in Allendale, Mich. at Grand Valley State University for the first round of the NCAA Div. II National Championship. This marks the first NCAA tournament appearance for the Knights since the university began the women's soccer program in 1990.
The Knights enter the NCAA tournament with an overall record of 13-3-1 (10-2-1 GLVC) for the 2009 season. The Greyhounds finished their season with a 15-5-0 (11-3-0 GLVC) record. Bellarmine gave the Greyhounds their first loss of the season on Sept. 18 with a 1-0 victory in Indianapolis.
Grand Valley State University received the top-seed in the Midwest region with a 18-0-3 overall record for their 2009 campaign. Finishing on the top of the region earned Grand Valley State hosting honors for the regional matchups in the tournament.
The winner of the Knights and Greyhounds will face Grand Valley State for the second round on Sunday, Nov. 15. All game times are to be announced on a later date.
