LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced its postseason awards, and four Bellarmine women's players are among the honorees with sophomore
Abby Schuhmann headlining the quartet by becoming Bellarmine's first women's soccer player to be named as an All-American.
Schuhmann, a defender, earned second team All-America recognition as she played the middle on a defensive line that allowed only 10 goals in 19 games while also leading the Knights in assists this year with four. In November, she was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year for 2009 and also earned first team All-Midwest Region honors from both NSCAA and Daktronics.
Joining Schuhmann with NSCAA postseason honors are
Amanda Moore,
Lauren Triplett and
Cristina Fugedy, all of whom were named All Midwest Region.
Moore was chosen for the NCSAA Midwest region first team. She started all 19 games, and highlighted her year by co-leading the Knights in points with 14 and game winning goals with four. Last month, Moore was named to the All-GLVC second team.
Triplett, a sophomore, earned All Midwest Region second team honors. She started all 19 games during the 2009 campaign and led the team with seven goals and tied Moore for the team lead with 14 points and four game winning goals. Earlier this year, Triplett was named to the Daktronics All-Region second team and the All-GLVC second team. She also earned player of the week honors in the GLVC after scoring back-to-back game winning goals over Rockhurst and Drury.
Fugedy, a junior, was named to the All-Region third team. Fugedy started on the defensive line along side Schuhmann that helped set a new school record for goals allowed in a season with 10, besting the previous record by seven goals. Fugedy was also chosen for the All-GLVC second team earlier this year. The Knights finished the season ranked No. 22 in the nation after going 14-4-1 and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.
