LOUISVILLE, Ky., (Apr. 19, 2009) -- Bellarmine University's men's tennis team captured a close win (5-4) over the Greyhounds of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon in their final conference match of the year.

The Knights, pressed from the very beginning of the match by the Hounds, saw the victory secured by Sathi Reddy in the final singles match of the day.

Indianapolis had the early 2-1 lead after the team of Tyler Worley and Paul Clark managed BU's only win in doubles with an 8-6 defeat of Werner Henning and Kyle Prow.

Bellarmine gained wins at the numbers one and two positions in singles as Nick Janssen-Bernard topped J.D. Greenlee 6-1, 6-4 and Nathan Matthews downed John Hack 6-1, 7-5.

The Grayhounds responded with a pair of three set victories at numbers three and four, while BU's Todd Atcher evened things up at 4-4 when he won at the six spot by a score of 6-4, 6-0 over UIndy's Werner Henning.

The final result rested on the number five singles match between BU's Sathi Reddy and UIndy's Taylor Broda with Reddy prevailing 6-3, 6-3 allowing the Knights to wrap up the win.

The victory brought Bellarmine's season record to 7-9 (5-4, GLVC) which places them in a tie with Indianapolis for fourth place in the conference.

Due to the head-to-head victory on Sunday, the Knights will get the number four seed in the GLVC Men's Tennis Championships while the Grayhounds hold the number five spot.

The end result, however, is that the two opponents will meet again on Fri., April 24, at 8:30 a.m. in the first round of the tourney, which will be played at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on the campus of Washington (Mo.) University in St. Louis, Mo.

In the meantime, the Knights will try to make up a rescheduled match against Indiana University-Southeast. The border state foes will meet on the Grenadiers home court Wed., Apr. 22.
