QUINCY, Ill. (Apr. 10, 2009) -- The Bellarmine University men's and women's tennis teams continued their strong play on the road as both squads rang up 5-0 victories against Quincy University.

Weather played a factor in both competitions as inclement conditions forced the teams to move indoors. After Bellarmine gained the five points necessary to secure the win for both the men and women, play was stopped and BU declared the winner.

The women's doubles teams all played strong to open the competition. Rebecca Porter and Emily Roebker downed Anele Novak and Lauren Harvey by a score of 8-4. Sarah Roebker paired with Elizabeth Bohnert to top Pam Ganer and Leslie Ganer by a mark of 8-2. Keyly Knetchel and Lauren Cotton wrapped up the doubles competition with a 8-4 win over Michelle Mertelsman and Megan Marsot.

At number one singles, Porter found herself trailing 2-5 before turning things around and reeling off 11 straight games for a 7-5, 6-0 win over Novak. Sarah Roebker defeated Sarah Harvey at number two singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Bohnert was leading Bertelsman 6-1, 1-0 when the match was stopped and the Knights awarded the victory.

With the win, Bellarmine's women's team boast a record of 11-4 (6-2 GLVC) while Quincy stands at 5-14 (0-4 GLVC).
