SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The honors keep pouring in for Bellarmine men's basketball player
Jeremy Kendle. Earlier today, two separate entities named the 6-2 guard from Jeffersonville, Ind., to their All-America Teams. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) named Kendle to their 16-person 2011 State Farm Division II All-America Team, and Daktronics (voted on by college sports information directors) named Kendle to their Third Team All-American squad.
Kendle has helped lead Bellarmine—the only school ranked in the NABC's top 5 all season long—to a 30-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Div. II Elite 8 for the first time in school history.
The team's leading scorer, Kendle is a powerful combo guard, who can shoot the 3-point shot as well as create his own shot off the dribble. On defense, he usually draws the toughest backcourt assignment. Kendle was voted Player of the Year in the highly competitive Great Lakes Valley Conference after being recognized three times during the year as Player of the Week.
A complete player, Kendle was third in the league in scoring (17 ppg) and also ranked in the league's top 15 in assists, free throw percentage and assist to turnover ratio. In just two seasons at Bellarmine, he already has scored more than 1,000 for his career.
Kendle becomes the fifth Bellarmine men's basketball player to earn All-America accolades. The four others are Steve Mercer, Tom Schurfranz, Buddy Cox, and Floyd Smith.
