Phillips' shutout guides Knights to split at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Sophomore left-hander Alex Phillips tossed a shutout as the visiting Bellarmine University baseball team defeated Lee 4-0 Wednesday in the tail end of a doubleheader after falling 8-3 in the opener.

Phillips (2-0) struck out eight while allowing four hits and two walks in 7.0 innings pitched. It was the first complete game and first shutout of his career for the Knights (11-7).

Sophomore first baseman Tyler Neeley and sophomore third baseman Josh Finerty both went deep in the second game against Lee (16-8). Neeley led off the fifth with his first career homer, while Finerty cranked his second round-tripper of the season with one out in the sixth.

Bellarmine scored twice in the first. Junior second baseman Alex Ralph and sophomore designated hitter Zac Wiley delivered a sacrifice fly and RBI single, respectively. Junior shortstop Drew Greenwood and junior left fielder Griffin Neuer had base hits in the inning as well.

Six different players had one hit apiece for the Knights. In the opener, Greenwood and Wiley had two hits each. Wiley collected a triple and Ralph doubled.

In the first game, Bellarmine trailed 6-0 before scoring once in the sixth and twice in the seventh, with the first run coming on Wiley's RBI triple.

Bellarmine will play Saturday and Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis. First pitches are at 1 p.m. (ET) and 2 p.m., respectively.
