Knights women's tennis sweeps Campbellsville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory Saturday over Campbellsville, which is ranked No. 22 nationally in the NAIA.

Playing at the University of Louisville's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, Bellarmine (5-1), ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, swept all three doubles matches and all six singles contests against Campbellsville (2-1).

Combined, the Knights' 1-3 doubles squads won 18-6. Senior Maggie Walroth and junior Ashley Jonathan were victorious at No. 1, junior Jennifer Skonieczny and sophomore Ava Ratcliff triumphed at No. 2 and sophomore Aubrey Smith and freshman Madison Devillez won at No. 3.

Bellarmine captured straight-sets victories in five of the six singles matches. Jonathan rallied at No. 2 after dropping the first set. Skonieczny (No. 1), Walroth (No. 3), Ratcliff (No. 4), Smith (No. 5) and Devillez (No. 6) all triumphed, with Devillez clinching the match.

"The most important aspect of this match was having all players healthy again," Knights Coach John Mican said. "After a solid week of practice, we were ready for a strong showing. We know we can play much better and will be really tested next weekend."

Bellarmine will play West Virginia State next Saturday in Ashland, Kentucky, before hosting Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Advantage Tennis and Fitness.
