ST. LOUIS — Missouri-St. Louis defeated the visiting Bellarmine University women's tennis team 4-3 on Wednesday.
Bellarmine (9-5) gained the doubles point but lost four of the five contested singles matches against Missouri-St. Louis (7-3).
Bellarmine won by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Senior
Maggie Walroth and junior
Ashley Jonathan captured a 7-5 victory over Marina Prediger and Odette Beagrie at No. 1 doubles to secure the point for the Knights.
However, the Tritons won in straight sets at Nos. 1-4 singles to tally the team victory. Sophomore
Aubrey Smith notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Clara Lopez Bueno at No. 5 for the Knights.
While both teams are in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, this was not a divisional match and thus didn't count toward the league standings.
Bellarmine begins GLVC play Friday at Southern Indiana.
"It was another great fight but another one we let slip away," Knights Coach
John Mican said. "If nothing else, we are certainly ready for the conference matches. We are battle-tested after the last few weeks of matches."
