Women's tennis defeated by No. 6 Indianapolis in GLVC Tournament finals

GREENWOOD, Ind. — No. 6 Indianapolis was able to halt the Bellarmine University women's tennis team's string of upsets in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

On Sunday at Center Grove High School, the Greyhounds captured the GLVC title with a 4-0 victory over the Knights in the finals.

UIndy (21-0) entered as the top seed from the East Division, while Bellarmine (13-9) held the four-seed from the East. The Knights became the first four-seed in tournament history to reach the title match after they pulled off upsets in the quarterfinals and semifinals, first defeating reigning champion and 21st-ranked Drury 4-3 and following with a 4-2 triumph over Missouri-St. Louis, the respective top seed and three-seed from the West.

The appearance in the GLVC Tournament finals marked the first for Bellarmine in program history in the seeding era. Indianapolis has now won 11 conference tournament crowns, most in the GLVC.

Indianapolis secured the doubles point after matching 6-2 wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The top 10 team then clinched the match by claiming victories at Nos. 6, 2 and 1 singles.

"We battled like true Knights, but Indy was just too solid today," Bellarmine Coach John Mican said.
