KENNESAW, Ga. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Kennesaw State in ASUN play Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Jenna Vollrath provided the eventual game-winner for the Owls (4-6, 3-2 ASUN) in the 84th minute after Bellarmine (2-5-1, 2-3-1) tied it at 1 on junior defender
Elise Markley's 69th-minute goal.
The Owls struck first in the 33rd minute on a goal by Kendall Higgs. After halftime, Markley delivered the equalizer with her second goal of the season, both off assists from Zamborini. On the latest connection, Markley headed in a free kick from Zamborini.
"I thought our effort in the second half today was phenomenal," Knights Coach
Chris Tinius said. "We showed more grit and more willingness to join in in the attack."
The teams combined for 17 total shots, with Bellarmine holding a slight 9-8 edge. The Owls had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
"Kennesaw is a talented, athletic group," Tinius said. "They found good spaces all afternoon to try and stretch us. I thought after our two overtimes on Sunday they did a good job of pushing the tempo early and using quite a few players in their rotation to come at us."
Bellarmine will host Liberty in its final ASUN home game of the regular season at noon (ET) Sunday.
