SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Bellarmine's Sam Schroeder (184) has added to the young wresting program's history.  The SoCon announced Schroeder as its Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, marking the first time a Knights player has won the award.  The Knights are in their second season in Division I and sixth as a program.

Schroeder was stellar at the NUWAY Combat College Open on Jan. 6, winning all four of the matches he competed, including three by pin.

Schroeder's Results From January 6
  • Champ. Round 1 - Sam Schroeder (Bellarmine) won by fall over Xavier Schecter (Ottawa ) (Fall 1:56)
  • Champ. Round 2 - Sam Schroeder (Bellarmine) won by fall over Andrew Hesse (Joliet Junior College ) (Fall 2:01)
  • Quarterfinal - Sam Schroeder (Bellarmine) won by decision over Connor Chloupek (Concordia-Moorhead) (Dec 7-3)
  • Semifinal - Sam Schroeder (Bellarmine) won by fall over Nick Brandt (Indiana Tech) (Fall 0:50)
  • 1st Place Match - Ben Provisor (Grand View (Iowa)) won by forfeit over Sam Schroeder (Bellarmine) (FF)
Perhaps more impressively, he battled for the Knights' only win at Campbell - a tough opponent who was picked second in the SoCon pre-season poll.  Schroeder defeated Shane Quick 6-5, giving him a 5-1 record over the last two days of competition.

This season, Schroeder ranks second on the team with nine wins and is tied for first among Knights with three falls.
