Beck wins fifth straight, Knights wrestling falls at The Citadel

2/13/2022 3:30:00 PM

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Following its first SoCon win of the season at Presbyterian, Bellarmine wrestling concluded its road-trip with a 38-3 loss at The Citadel on Sunday afternoon.

Bellarmine (2-14) had to forfeit the 141 and 285 weight classes, while also wrestling without wins leader Cole Nance (157).  A strong start for The Citadel (5-5) and the forfeits proved to be too much for the Knights in their final road dual of the regular season.

"The final dual score certainly isn't indicative of what this team has become," Knights Head Coach Ned Shuck said.  "Sometimes it's hard to see progression through the score when it looks like that, but I'm proud of our team."

Eric Beck (174) proved to be a bright spot, winning his fifth consecutive SoCon bout.  Beck topped Cole Burke 6-1, and now has 15 wins this season, which ranks second on the team.  He is the all-time wins leader in Bellarmine history with 92.

"Beck showed great leadership today by pushing through some adversity," Shuck added.  "We are going to practice having a short memory on this one and get excited for our last home dual of the season against UTC on Friday!"

Bellarmine concludes its regular season at home on Friday against Chattanooga at 7:00 p.m.  All the action can be viewed on BU Knights Sports Network.
