LOUISVILLE, Ky – In the middle of the SoCon season, Bellarmine paused for a trip north to The University of Indianapolis to compete in the Greyhound Open. 
 
The Knights had no shortage of success, racking up 46 wins and 13 pins in the 30-team event.  Sunday represented a great opportunity to get plenty of wrestlers on the mat as Bellarmine had 17 individuals compete.
 
Bellarmine all-time wins leader Eric Beck (174) added to that total going 3-1 with a team-best second place finish in his weight class.  Beck corralled one pin on his way to another impressive open performance.  Cole Nance (157) was not far behind, piling up a team-best six wins (6-1 record) and a third place finish, including wins in his final four matches.  Nance earned three pins on Sunday.
 
The other Bellarmine wrestlers who placed included Mitch Collica (149) who wrestled to fourth place with a 4-2 record, Jack Parker (125) who nabbed fifth with a 3-2 record, Sam Schroeder (184) who finished sixth with a 3-2 record, Knights assistant coach Brendan Murphy (165) who earned sixth with three victories wrestling unattached, and BU graduate assistant Mike Tortorice (125) who won his weight class unattached.
 
Other Knights wrestlers who scored for the team were Corbin Hale (157), Alex Rivera (157), Alex Rhine (157), Devan Hendricks (165), Josh Craig (174), Charlie Cadell (184), and Bryant Wilkinson (197).
 
"Today was a good day to be a Knight," Murphy said.  "We won almost 50 matches as a team with 17 wrestlers.  Every match, the guys were working to score points and dominate.  Eric Beck making the finals and Cole Nance taking top three showed grit from them today.  Overall, we are very happy with the performance and excited about the growth."
 
With Nance's six victories on Sunday, he now has a team-high 16 wins on the season.
 
Bellarmine is back to SoCon dual action at Presbyterian on Friday, Feb. 11 followed by another road matchup with The Citadel on Feb. 13.
