To recognize the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, Bellarmine Athletics is highlighting nine women who have made remarkable impacts on our programs. Today's spotlight falls on basketball standout Roxanne Cox Norton, who was Bellarmine's first female All-American.
A 2000 Bellarmine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Roxanne was a prolific scorer and still holds the Bellarmine record for field goals made in a career (667). She closed her career with 1,529 points, which ranked No. 1 on the all-time list at the time of her graduation (she is currently sixth on the scoring list).  Over her four years (1984-87), Roxanne averaged 13.7 points and 4.9 rebounds while dishing out 250 career assists, and the team enjoyed two NCAA tourney appearances and an overall record of 79-34.
Roxanne garnered the very first All-America honor for a female student-athlete at Bellarmine when she earned a spot on the American Women's Sports Federation's 4th Team All-America squad in 1986. That same year, she helped the Belles (as Bellarmine's women's teams were known at that time) to the team's first-ever NCAA appearance and a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference title. The 1986 team advanced all the way to the NCAA "Elite Eight," becoming the first Bellarmine team (men or women) to make the national quarterfinals.  Â
The following year also was a stellar year for Roxanne personally and for the Bellarmine team as she picked up honorable mention All-America honors and the team returned to the NCAA Tournament. A Scottsburg, Indiana native, Roxanne was a two-time All-GLVC performer and the recipient of the Bellarmine Alumni Association's Lady Knight Award in 1987.
