1/7/2023 9:07:00 PM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  In its second day of competition at the Louisville Expo Center, the Bellarmine wrestling team earned first place in the NCWA Division at the NWCA National Duals.

The Knights won all six duals they competed in over the past two days to claim the title.  Each dual featured 11 bouts, including a 235 match.  Seven Bellarmine wrestlers went 6-0 to help propel the Knights to the tournament win.

Friday – Pool B Results
-Bellarmine 42 – Queens 9
-Bellarmine 58 – Emory & Henry 6
-Bellarmine 46 – Apprentice School 6

Saturday – Tournament
-Bellarmine 48 – Central Florida 6
-Bellarmine 35 – Queens 12
-Bellarmine 29 – Liberty 21

"I love how our team continued to grow together as the tournament progressed," Knights Head Coach Ned Shuck said.  "A dual meet atmosphere is really special and we had a blast with it!" Many of our guys went undefeated on the weekend and wrestled with a dominating style. Getting our arms raised is really cool, but I was more impressed with the level of output they gave in each of the matches."

Jack Parker went 6-0 for the Knights at 125 including two tech-falls and a pin.  Michael Schiffhauer also went 6-0 with five major decision victories and a tech-fall at 133.  Zac Cowan is another Knight who posted a 6-0 record, comprised of three pins, two tech-falls, and one major decision win at 149.  Grant O'Dell earned a 6-0 mark with a major decision win, tech-fall, and a pin.

Cole Nance was 6-0 for BU with five pins at 165, while Devan Hendricks went 6-0 with three pins and two major decision victories at 174.  Kennedy Wyatt kept the 6-0 trend going at 184 with three pins and a major decision win.  Thad Huff earned an impressive 5-1 record with four pins at 235, while William Muckler also went 5-1 at 285 with a pair of pins.

"What an amazing opportunity and event right in our backyard," Shuck added.  "We are so thankful for the NCWA in welcoming us into their National Duals as a transitioning D1 team as they have with others in the past. Our guys work their butts off every day to get an opportunity for a National Dual Title and post-season National tournament. Without the NCWA that doesn't happen for us yet."

Bellarmine is back in action next Friday with their SoCon-opening dual at Gardner-Webb at 6:00 p.m. ET.
