LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Evansville combined for 13 runs in the fifth and sixth innings in capturing a 14-2 victory over the Bellarmine University baseball team Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field.
The home debut of Bellarmine (5-12) was spoiled despite solo home runs from senior second baseman
Peyton Back and sophomore designated hitter
Casey Sorg, who also struck out the side while pitching the first inning against Evansville (10-7).
Back launched his second homer of the season in the third inning to stake Bellarmine to a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, by the time Sorg smacked his third homer of the year in the sixth, Evansville had scored 13 runs as the Purple Aces plated six in the fifth inning and seven in the sixth.
Bellarmine's defense turned four double plays, but the Knights also had three errors and allowed five unearned runs while BU additionally issued 10 walks. Evansville started the season 0-5 but has gone 10-2 since after a win over the Knights that included four homers.
Junior right-hander
