Baseball toppled by Morehead State in midweek contest

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State topped the Bellarmine University baseball team 9-2 in a nonconference contest Tuesday at Allen Field.

Sophomore right-hander Arren Hash delivered one of the best starts of his career for Bellarmine (10-27), tossing a career-high 6.0 innings while allowing three runs and striking out three against Morehead State (22-13), which sits in second place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Bellarmine tallied six hits — one each from six players — and scored both its runs in the eighth inning. In the frame, senior second baseman Dylan Byerly walked, senior Brett Pfaadt singled and senior catcher Ashton Smith broke up the shutout bid with an RBI single. Junior left fielder Reed Blaszczyk drove in another run on a fielder's choice.

Bellarmine trailed 3-0 after six innings, but Morehead State scored twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth to pull away. The Eagles were buoyed by four home runs.

Bellarmine will play a three-game ASUN series at Lipscomb starting with a 7 p.m. (ET) matchup Friday.
