Softball drops series finale at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tn. – The Bellarmine University softball team closed out its three-game series at Lipscomb, falling 8-4 in the series finale on Sunday at Draper Diamond.

Bellarmine (11-33, 4-14 ASUN) took a 2-0 lead in the third after both times grinded through the opening two innings without a score.

In the third, the Knights put the first runs of the game on the board thanks to a bloop single off the bat of Lauren Guthrie landed just in the outfield grass.

Lipscomb (12-33, 5-13 ASUN) evened the game in the fourth, scoring on two RBI singles. In the fifth, the Bisons took control of the game, blasting a grand slam to vault ahead 6-2.

BU answered in the sixth, plating another run off a hot shot RBI single from Lele Bennett to cut the lead to three at 6-3.

The Bisons tacked on two more runs in the home half of the inning to extend the lead to five, up 8-3.

Freshman Lily Jones kicked off the seventh with a leadoff home run, crushing a ball over the wall in left to make it 8-4. The homer was her second of the season. Jones' home run would be the Knights' final hit of the game as Lipscomb finished off the 8-4 win.

Up next, Bellarmine will return to Knights Field for its final home games of the season, hosting Eastern Kentucky April 25-26.
