Knights edged by Lipscomb in low-scoring series finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine baseball dropped a tightly contested 2-1 decision to Lipscomb in Saturday's series finale at Ken Dugan Field. With the loss, the Knights move to 19-30 overall and 11-16 in ASUN play, while the Bisons improve to 24-23 overall and 17-10 in conference action.

The Knights collected 10 hits on the afternoon but were unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities, leaving 12 runners on base. AJ Swader and Eli Watson each recorded multi-hit performances, while Connor Pawlowski added two hits of his own.

Lipscomb opened the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run before Bellarmine's pitching staff settled in and kept the game within reach throughout the afternoon. Chase Chamberlain turned in a strong start, allowing just one run across five innings of work, while Cade Rusch tossed 2.2 innings in relief.

Bellarmine finally broke through in the ninth inning after Pawlowski singled and Luca Hoerger followed with a base hit. Landon Akers delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 and load the bases with two outs, but the Knights were unable to push across the go-ahead run.

Lipscomb answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring the winning run on a passed ball to walk off the series finale.

Bellarmine returns to action on Tuesday against Louisville at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
