LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University baseball head coach Ben Reel has announced the addition of Vince Tornincasa, Will Kempf and Victor Alvarez to the Knights' coaching staff.
Tornincasa will serve as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach; Kempf joins the program as director of player development and operations, and Alvarez will serve as a graduate assistant.
Tornincasa arrives at Bellarmine after serving as the head coach at IU Southeast, where he guided the Grenadiers through one of the most successful seasons in program history. IU Southeast captured the River States Conference regular-season and tournament championships, won an NAIA Opening Round title and advanced to the NAIA World Series while climbing to a program-record No. 5 in the national rankings.
He was named the River States Conference Coach of the Year and NAIA Regional Coach of the Year and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year.
Tornincasa originally joined IU Southeast in 2025 as the lead assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and hitting coach. During his season in that role, the Grenadiers batted .324, posted a .915 OPS and scored 429 runs. He also worked closely with the infielders, helping develop the RSC Player of the Year, three all-conference selections, and three Gold Glove recipients.
His previous collegiate coaching stops include Southern Indiana, Illinois Springfield and Purdue Northwest. A native of Northwest Indiana, Tornincasa was inducted into the Andrean Baseball Hall of Fame in August 2026.
Kempf joins the Knights following a summer as an assistant coach with the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League. He served as the Mustangs' primary hitting coach, third-base coach and catching coach while also assisting with recruiting.
Martinsville ranked among the CPL leaders in stolen bases, strikeout rate, on-base percentage, and walk rate. Two Mustangs finished among the league's top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, while three earned CPL All-Star honors.
From 2024-26, Kempf served as a graduate assistant with the University of Louisville baseball program. He assisted with hitting and catching instruction, baseball operations, technology and analytics, camps and student-athlete mentorship.
Louisville advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Men's College World Series during his tenure. Kempf also spent the summer of 2025 as an assistant coach and clinic director with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League, helping the team capture the league's regular-season championship.
A former Centre College baseball player, Kempf earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and Spanish from Centre and a master's degree in sport administration from Louisville.
Alvarez comes to Bellarmine after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Campbellsville University, where he worked as the junior varsity head coach and varsity first-base coach. His responsibilities included practice planning, game strategy, player development, recruiting, field operations, and program administration.
As the JV head coach, Alvarez guided Campbellsville to a tournament championship in the fall of 2025. He also assisted in the development of the Tigers' outfielders, with two earning Mid-South Conference Gold Glove honors during the 2025 season.
Before Campbellsville, Alvarez was an assistant coach with the Dubois County Bombers, serving as the team's hitting coach and third-base coach while assisting with position-player development and daily operations.
A native of Venezuela, Alvarez played collegiately at Wabash Valley College and Oakland City University. He earned a bachelor's degree in sports administration from Oakland City and a master's degree in management and leadership from Campbellsville. Alvarez is bilingual and brings experience in coaching, recruiting, and player development to the Knights' staff.
