IU Indy defeats women's soccer

INDIANAPOLIS — IU Indy topped the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 5-2 on Thursday night at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

The score was tied at 1 late in the first half when IU Indy (2-2-1) scored the first of four unanswered goals bridging the halves. Lindsey Castillo had a brace, bookending the goal scoring for the Jaguars.

Sophomore forward Makenzie Simpson scored in the first half off an assist from freshman midfielder Rachel Shewmaker, and junior forward Campbell Tippey found the net after the break for Bellarmine (0-3-1). It was the Knights' first multi-goal performance of the season.

Half of Bellarmine's eight shots were on goal. IU Indy tallied 23 shots, 16 of which were on frame. Sophomore Anna Jenkins and freshman Joelle Hentz combined for 11 saves for the Knights.

Bellarmine will host Wright State at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday, Sept. 10.
