Jalen Madison joined the Bellarmine University men's and women's track and field coaching staffs as an assistant specializing in throws prior to the 2020-21 season.
In 2022-23, Madison's men's throws group set new overall and freshman indoor program records in the shot put and weight throw while doing the same in the outdoor season in the discus. The outdoor freshman program record for the hammer throw was also toppled.
Previously, Madison and Men's Head Coach Chase Broughton were teammates and coaching colleagues at the University of Southern Indiana. Before arriving at Bellarmine, Madison was an assistant coach with the Screaming Eagles for two seasons. In that timeframe, his throwers combined to amass 17 top-10 performances in the USI record books. In his last season at USI, his throwers broke two freshman records in the men’s and women’s weight throw.
Competitively at Southern Indiana, Madison set a program record for the discus as a senior at the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. He cracked the Screaming Eagles’ record book in five throwing events during his career.
Before returning to USI to coach, Madison served as an assistant coach/academic coordinator for the cross country/track and field teams at Division III Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. The track and field student-athletes broke 43 school records during his time at Fontbonne. Madison oversaw a women’s cross country team that was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association All-Academic in 2017. His women’s cross country runners boasted the highest GPA in the country across all NCAA divisions with a 3.94 mark.
Madison graduated from Southern Indiana in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He is USA Track & Field Level One Certified and sits on the board of directors for USA Track & Field Indiana, where he also serves as chair of the youth committee. He has a wife, Rachel.
