Bearcats take 4-set victory over Knights

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University volleyball team fell in four sets (25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19) to the visiting McKendree Bearcats tonight in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Knights Hall.

The GLVC East-leading Bearcats got a big effort from Arela Williams who posted game-highs in kills with 18 and digs with 21.  McKendree, which improved to 21-9, 15-2 GLVC, hit .304 for the match while the Knights managed an attack percentage of .116.

The Knights fell behind 0-2, but mounted a strong game in set three, outhitting the Bearcats to extend the match.

Margaret Horihan shook off a slow start to finish with a team-high 11 kills, and Bridget Guinane turned in a strong performance with nine kills while hitting .308 and assisting on five blocks.

Freshman Lydia Lange also posted good numbers with five kills and an attack percentage of .400.

Defensively, four Knights posted double digit digs led by libero Jordyn Kuchenbrod, who equalled Williams' 21 digs to tie for game-high honors.

With the loss, Bellarmine falls to 10-21, 2-15 GLVC.

The Knights will wind up the 2015 season tomorrow with a 2 p.m. "Senior Day" match against the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars.  Prior to the match, Bellarmine will honor its lone senior Phoenix Fowler.
