Bellarmine remains perfect at home with sweep of Ohio Dominican

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a two-hour rain delay, the Bellarmine University softball team swept its second home doubleheader of the season on Sunday against the Ohio Dominican Panthers (0-4).  The Knights (7-7) dominated game one with five different batters driving in runs, ending the game in the bottom of the sixth 9-1.  Ally Foster contributed with her arm and her bat in game two with five strikeouts and a two-run homer to lead the Knights to a 4-1 victory in game two.

Game 1 BU 9, ODU 1 (BOX SCORE)

Miranda Mader and Katie Stamper contributed RBI singles in the bottom of the first to score Kelly Ely and Marlee Tevis, giving Bellarmine a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers were unable to answer back until the top of the third when Julia Suyak singled to center field, pushing across Liz Sutter for the lone run.

Stamper drilled another ball up the middle in the home half of the third, driving in Tevis and Ely to put the Knights up 4-1.  Erica Knollman and Foster both reached on Panther errors, which helped the Knights stretch the lead to seven at the end of the third.

Ely ran in after a single to third base from Stamper in the sixth to seal the win for Bellarmine.  Stamper led the Knights going 3-for-4 and collecting four RBIs.  Ely went 2-for-4 and scored three times.

Foster was credited for the win after striking out eight Panthers and only allowing five hits.

Game 2 BU 4, ODU 1 (BOX SCORE)

Stamper carried the momentum from the first game into game two with a first-inning single down the left line, sending Foster home for a 1-0 Knights lead.

Once again, the third inning brought Ohio Dominican its only run of the game from Suyak.  A throwing error after Suyak's bunt single allowed Sutter to score from second.

Tabby Shewmaker helped take back the lead in the fourth inning with a double to right center field, scoring Allison Woosley.  A wild pitch put Shewmaker on third base and in perfect position to extend the Knights' lead.  Foster's homer to right field put the Knights out of reach for the Panthers.

Foster improved her pitching record to 7-3, only allowing four hits and notching five more strikeouts in her belt.  Madeline Kurtz was credited with the save after pitching the last inning for Bellarmine.

The Knights head to Duncan, SC for the Mid-South Classic next weekend where they will play six games in three days.  Bellarmine will face No. 1 North Georgia on the last day of the tournament.

The Knights's next home contest is a doubleheader on March 6 when they host Lincoln Memorial beginning at noon.
