Knights set to host 5-team volleyball tourney

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University volleyball team will look to make history when it takes the court in the Holiday Inn Airport Fair/Expo Kickoff Classic this Friday and Saturday at Knights Hall.

The tourney, which will feature nine matches played over two days in Knights Hall, welcomes teams from Alderson Broaddus, Ohio Valley, St. Mary's (Texas), and West Georgia to compete against the Knights and each other.

The Knights will open in "Match 2" at 2 p.m. on Friday against Ohio Valley. Bellarmine will be trying to become the first Knights volleyball team to start the season with five consecutive wins after going 4-0 in the Walsh Cavalier Classic last week. That 4-0 start ties the 2011, 1990 and 1988 teams for the best in school history.

After facing Ohio Valley to open, Bellarmine's other matches this weekend include a Friday night match against St. Mary's at 7 p.m. and Saturday matchups against West Georgia and Alderson Broaddus at 2 and 7 p.m. respectively.

The Knights' strong start last week was highlighted by stellar play from multiple players.  Margaret Horihan, Allie Muha and Jordyn Kuchenbrod all picked up All-Tournament Team accolades while junior Hayden Dailey and senior Ashley Jefferson also turned in outstanding performances.

Dailey averaged 12 kills a match over the first three and recorded career highs in both kills and digs against Fairmont State in a five-set victory. Jefferson, meanwhile, posted an attack percentage of .519 for the week, which has her sitting atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference statistical rankings.

Coach Jenni Grzebin also got solid contributions from Lydia Lange, Bridget Guinane and Katie Adams along the front row, while Abby Biggs and Teyah Leinenbach relieved Muha at the setter position with strong outings.
