GREENVILLE, Tenn. — The visiting Bellarmine University baseball team built a 5-1 lead, but Tusculum rallied for a 6-5 victory Friday in the first of a three-game series.
Tusculum (4-4) scored twice in the fifth to cut its deficit to 5-3 and took the lead over the Knights (1-3) with a three-run seventh.
Freshman first baseman
Jacob Pendred launched the first collegiate homer of his career with a two-run shot in the third. Senior designated hitter
Christopher Allen went 2 for 4 and had an RBI single in the fifth that pushed the Knights' lead to 5-1. Freshman center fielder
Bobby Brokamp added a pair of hits and drove in Bellarmine's first run with a sacrifice fly.
Junior left-hander
Hunter Spencer (0-2) took the loss for the Knights, allowing five earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts against no walks. Senior right-hander
Will Birch tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.
