Bobby Brokamp led an 11-hit attack as the Bellarmine University baseball team walloped Hillsdale 10-0 on Sunday afternoon at Knights Field.
Brokamp smacked three doubles in going 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Bellarmine (5-4), which swept the three-game series against the Chargers (1-6) and has won four straight overall. Junior second baseman
Alex Ralph went 3 for 4 with a double, junior left fielder
Griffin Neuer collected a double and two RBIs, and sophomore first baseman
Jacob Pendred chipped in a pair of RBIs.
Sophomore left-hander
Alex Phillips (1-0) notched the win for Bellarmine, striking out five while allowing four hits in 5.0 scoreless innings. Junior right-hander
Yancey Pritchett, senior right-hander
Griffin Caron and sophomore left-hander
Willie Poe combined for 4.0 scoreless innings of relief as the Knights recorded their first shutout of the season.
Bellarmine's offense was steady, scoring at least one run in all but two innings. Junior shortstop
Drew Greenwood led off the first by ripping a single up the middle against Andrew Verbrugge (0-2) and the Knights were off. After a Phillips base hit, Neuer lifted a sacrifice fly and Ralph added an RBI single for a quick 2-0 lead.
Neuer doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the third, and Brokamp cranked an RBI double in the fourth. Pendred followed the next frame with a two-run single, sophomore third baseman
Josh Finerty tacked on an RBI single in the sixth and Brokamp creamed a two-run double — his third two-bagger of the game — in the seventh while Neuer contributed an RBI in the stanza.
