LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team tied a program record Sunday at Advantage Tennis and Fitness with its 18th victory.
The historical win came against Alabama-Huntsville, whom the 25th-ranked Knights defeated 8-1. Bellarmine (18-2) has matched its win total from its record-breaking season last year.
Bellarmine swept the doubles matches as junior
Maggie Walroth and sophomore
Ashley Jonathan were victorious at No. 1 as were sophomore
Jennifer Skonieczny and senior
Marissa Kovach at No. 2. The Knights made it 3-0 after UAH forfeited at No. 3.
Alabama-Huntsville also forfeited matches at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Bellarmine won three of the other four matches, but they weren't easy. Walroth, at No. 2, and Kovach, at No. 3, were both involved in tiebreakers. Senior
Mairin Cotter secured her victory at No. 4 by winning 7-5 in the second set.
"That was a great bounce-back win after yesterday (loss to Lewis)," Knights Coach

On the men's side, UAH posted an 8-1 victory over Bellarmine. Senior
Matt Momper earned his 50th career win for the Knights when he and freshman
Sam Rueff won 9-7 at No. 2 doubles.
The Knights dropped to 2-14 while UAH improved to 7-14.
